The Great Khali's Health and Issues
The Great Khali is a big man, at Seven Feet tree inches, managing your body is not an easy enough task. He also has a huge weight of about 400 pounds, which also isn't easy to manage. Therefore keeping himself Healthy is one of the things The Great Khali has to take a lot of care about.
Being a real sportsman though, The Great Khali has a well toned body, he was crowned Mr. India in the 90s which shows what an exceptional bodybuilder he has been. He is one of the very few people who are of this height and actually are bodybuilders! Other tall wrestlers of the WWE such as Big Show, The Undertaker, Kane, Giant Gongelius, Andre The Giant etc. were no bodybuilders, but The Great Khali is an exception.
His chest is a broad 63 Inches and his biceps are quite huge as well, The Great Khali is really a great champion bodybuilder, he is also a Pehelwaan athelete which means that he has been into Traditional Indian Wrestling since quite a lot of time. Traditional wrestling mind you requires a lot of practice and agility, and the Great Khali is actually quite agile in real life. Had the WWE not made him into a Frankenstein like monster he could have displayed his agility better. Now this doesn't mean that Khali is like a gazelle, but he is certainly quicker than what you get to see of him in WWE.
Contrary to the popular beliefs, The Great Khali has never had any form of Acromegaly/Gigantism. He has NEVER had ANY Gigantism, his growth to the current height is not because of a defect in the pituitary Gland, but because of his Genes. Because his Grandfather was nearly Seven Feet tall as well, this is all natural growth.
Since coming to the WWE, he has had a few problems relating to Health, including an Elevated Liver Enzymes problem just before The Great American Bash which caused him to be out of action from The Punjabi Prison match.
Some time later The Great Khali had surgery on both of his knees because the joints were losing their flexibility, and therefore he was out of action for several weeks.
Apart from these few problems, The Great Khali has always been in good shape, to keep up his figure, he has to consume a lot, a popular thing said about him online is that he eats Five Chickens and Two Dozen eggs everyday, but this is wrong, this is not his daily diet, he doesn't eat Chickens and eggs everyday, but yes he eats a lot and consumes a lot of milk as well. The Great Khali also spends Two hours daily at the gym.
As of June 2007 The Great Khali is suffering from some knee pain problems but the pain isnt severe enough to make you fans worried and The Great Khali is expected to recover soon, however he isn't out of action and will not be out of action anytime soon as well.
The Great Khali Criticism and Khali Fan's Answers

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
************************************************************************************
The Great Khali doesn't deserve to be a champion!I can see all you jealous heads ranting about this all over the IWC and Youtube, well listen to this little ones, The Great Khali deserves to be the champion, so live with it. I mean like look at things from a realistic angle, that man can crush anyone to pieces, he actually looks like someone who should be a champion. So stop whining about it just because you're either jealous that your favorite superstar didn't win/isn't getting a title shot or because you are racist towards The Great Khali.
The Great Khali doesn't know any moves!
Yeah? What about this? and in case you didn't know already, The Great Khali can of course do a LOT of moves which are done by huge wrestlers like him, and he knows them as well just check out this and this (Videos of The Great Khali in Japan) to know some of the moves The Great Khali is capable of doing but the WWE doesn't let him do them.
The Great Khali can't speak English
Yes he can, go check out the Longest Yard (film) to check him speaking English. Oh and hey, talk about Common sense, if he doesn't know English how is he living in the USA? How did he manage to act in 'The Longest Yard'? How do you think this dude talked to the WWE in the first place and reached a contract? How does he appear and talk on talk shows? How did he get trained to wrestle? How did he communicate with Jonathan Coachman?
The Great Khali can't wrestle!
What the hell? What does he do in the ring then? Check out his match with Shawn Michaels and then tell me that he can't wrestle. He has been into Pehlwani Wrestling (Indian Traditional Wrestling) since 1995 and has been with companies like All Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling prior to coming to WWE. Also, let me assure you that The Great Khali can perform a lot of moves and work awesome wrestling matches, which can be witnessed by looking at his videos.
The Great Khali has no Mic skills
Oh yeah right, so do you really think that someone the size of The Great Khali needs to do trash talking to break his opponent down or to make people/fans amazed/happy/sad? I have said this on many wrestling websites and will say it again, Monsters do not do the talking, they simply knock you out cold, and they then walk away like nothing has happened. The Great Khali knows English and could say some stuff on the mic if the WWE wanted him to, but this does not go with his in-ring-persona of the unstoppable monster.
The Great Khali can't cut a decent promo!
If you think that The Great Khali cannot cut a decent promo then you seriously have not checked out all of his promos OR you do not know the definition of a decent promo. If you look at his latest one in which he told John Cena to "come get some", that really defines a decent promo. So yeah.
The Great Khali is SLOW
The Great Khali is slow? Well what do you want a monster bodybuilder like him to do? Do you want him to jump off ropes doing Senton Bombs? Or do you want some Hurricanranas? Head Scissors or how about some Superkicks? But oh wait, who would he superkick? and who would be able to take his Hurricanranas? Sentons would crash the whole ring down of course.. and You know what... The Great Khali actually is an athelete and is well able to run around. Back in India he even used to take interest and perform in athletics before finally moving to bodybuilding, but yes I can assure you he can run around well enough. Its just that if the WWE makes him run around, it would not be appropiate! It would not go with his monster image and it would just make the whole arena LAUGH to see a guy huge as Khali running around.
The Great Khali cannot sell moves!
YEAH RIGHT... duh.. of course The Great Khali can sell moves and I must say he sells moves much better than Big Show, Kane and MANY other wrestlers including some legends (I won't say this about The Undertaker since he is in the gimmick that doesn't sell moves). Anyways if you saw the Wrestlemania match between Khali and Kane, you could see he sold the powerbomb well, he even sold the F-U's (including the one off the crane) to John Cena pretty nicely throughout their feud, he has sold a lot of moves to The Undertaker back in their last man standing match and The Great Khali also regularly sells moves to even smaller opponents, like he visibly stammers a bit when hit with full force by smaller wrestlers. (Unlike Umaga, Kane, Boogeyman etc. who laugh at Chair shots) Therefore The Great Khali is absolutely awesome at selling moves.
The Great Khali is DANGEROUS
The Great Khali is not dangerous, he is a very good guy to work with in real life and has been practicing wrestling since a fair amount of time. He made a great match against Shawn Michaels and threw him on the announce tables but that DID NOT hurt Shawn one bit, he performed the move with such perfection. Now I wont say this is a great thing, Wrestlers do this stuff all the time, but what I want to say here with this example is that The Great Khali is not dangerous at all. But YES he of course could be dangerous if he did full force moves (which people keep whining he never does) as mentioned above, for example if he did some sort of an aerial move, jumping off the top rope or something, that'd tear the wrestler being attacked in half, THAT would be dangerous of course, but The Great Khali does not do those moves so this is out of question.
The Great Khali killed a guy!
The whole answer to this allegation could be found here.
The Great Khali has no charisma/The Great Khali will never get over with the fans
This is just wrong, The Great Khali has all the charisma needed to get over with the fans. Its just that his current gimmick does not allow him to get over with the fans in a positive way. HOWEVER, as far as getting "over" with the fans for the heel part is concerned, The Great Khali is quite over with the crowd whenever he steps into the ring. But for those of you who believe he has no charisma, well... lets say, The Great Khali's huge structure itself is enough to attract all the charisma he needs, plus he is a heel wrestler right now, so that kind of decreases the charisma factor. If he turns FACE however, The Great Khali will be VERY popular among the crowd. For example check this video out. The crowd thought that The Great Khali was with John Cena so they cheered for him and did his signature taunt even. You could feel it in the video that Khali could be good as a face too. Plus, since he's acting a heel now, you could hear Public reaction to him always.
So this clears up quite a lot of stuff about The Great Khali and gives an answer to his critics! Anyways Khali Fans, if you encounter anyone dissing Khali over any of the above points, feel free to copy paste the answers mentioned here (with credit of course, heh).
You know what guys, most of the people cannot stand Khali because either of the following points:-
- They are racist.- They cannot stand anyone taking out their favorite wrestlers.- They are used to seeing cruiserweights jump around and find a giant wrestler odd.- They are the same people who think that wrestling sucks- They are Undertaker's marks and have been holding a grudge against Khali ever since he squashed The Undertaker.
And of course the most common point...
- They are flowing the way WWE wants them to, which means that they hate Khali since he is presented by WWE as a heel wrestler.
I'm leaving the comments option open for this page, so all of you can say whatever you want here and I'll be happy to reply and respond to all your questions and queries of all kinds.
Yours truly,
KHALI FAN

The Great Khali's Early Wrestling Career
The Great Khali then continued wrestling in the All Pro Wrestling, and continued training with them, learning new ways to wrestle all the time. He made a lot of friends in the wrestling community while being at the APW. However on May 28, 2001, while training at the APW with the Great Khali, a wrestler named Brian Ong made a mistake while taking a flapjack from The Great Khali and suffered a concussion which caused his death. Although it was NOT a mistake of Khali neither was Khali the cause of Brain Ong's death. More details in the "Brian Ong Incident" page.
After Khali's contract with the All Pro Wrestling expired, he went to Japan with the Japanese Wrestling Legend Masahiro Chono to sign up with the New Japan Pro Wrestling, the largest and the most famous Professional Wrestling company of Asia. Khali was named "Giant Singh" for his appearances in NJPW. Also accompanying Khali was the Brazilian Giant Paul Silva, better known as The Giant Silva, the Giant Silva had previously made a one-time appearance on the World Wrestling Entertainment's RAW roster as well and was not new to Professional Wrestling.
Masahiro Chono, after getting both Khali and Silva signed up with New Japan Pro Wrestling, invented the Tag team between both of them known as "Club 7". This name was given to their tag Team, because both Khali and Silva were over Seven Feet Tall. Khali was an impressive 7'3" while Silva was just one inch short at 7'2". The Club 7 Tag team has the world record of being the tallest Tag Team in the history of pro wrestling. Their combined weight exceeded 800 pounds as well, making them almost invincible.
The first match of the Club 7 tag team was a six man handicap match, in which Club 7 emerged victorious after ruining each of the other four wrestlers one by one. After many other successful matches, the first defeat came for Khali in New Japan Pro Wrestling when the Japanese wrestler Hiroyoshi Tanzan pinned him after cradling. (Cradling a wrestler is an alternative form of the shoulder-to-the-mat pin, where the attacking wrestler lifts the legs of the wrestler being pinned and applies his strength and weight into forcing the wrestler's shoulders to be pinned to the mat). This happened in Tokyo on January 2002.
Besides this loss, Khali also lost to Manabu Nakanishi after Manabu put up an awesome Wrestling display and pinned The Great Khali. This loss came in March, 2002. Shortly after, the Tag team of Club 7 came to an end and was followed by a feud between Khali and Silva. In August 2002, a Singles match was organized between Silva and Khali in which Silva defeated him in a pinfall.
He continued wrestling in Japan for some more time until he took a leave from wrestling and went to India where he spent time with his family. In 2004, he was approached with a proposal to act in the Hollywood film "The Longest Yard".In January 2006, World Wrestling Entertainment took notice of Khali and put him in a contract.
Mini Biography of The Great Khali
He didn't attend much school due to poverty but because of his exceptional growth and power, he started working as a Roadside stone breaker at a young age on daily wages to provide bread for his poor family. As he grew up he started playing various sports and prooved to be a really good sportsman. He also took interest in Body building and carved his body in a wonderful shape, at this time he was still working as a Roadside laborer.
The Director General of Punjab police Mr. M.S. Bhullar (now retired) saw Dalip and his talent in bodybuilding and decided to help him. He got Dalip a job in the Punjab Police as a constable in 1993. Due to the increased wages, Dalip got more financially relaxed and began putting more effort into bodybuilding. He also joined various Gyms and Boxing clubs in Jalandhar.
After years of hard work and practice in the local gyms, he won the title of Mr. India in 1997 and 1998 out of hundreds of other participants , which gave him a huge boost in terms of confidence and popularity and he quickly became an icon for the youth of Punjab.
In 1999, with due support from his colleagues and family, Dalip Singh went to United States of America on a Work permit and joined the wrestling school of All Pro Wrestling. Where he was kept in training for a few months, here he learnt how to use different wrestling moves safely and how to receive them as well, because of his hard working and quick learning attitude, he was made to debut in the year 2000 at All Pro Wrestling.
THE GREAT KHALI'S PERSONAL LIFE
The Great Khali's real name is Dalip Singh Rana, also sometimes said as Dileep or Daleep Singh Rana. Dalip Singh grew up in a very poor family but today he is a rich person. His physical structure is one to behold as he stands up at a gigantic Seven Feet Three Inches, which is his real height. He also weighs nearly Four Hundred pounds.
Dalip Singh is originally from the Dhirana Village of Himachal Pradesh, this place is a very beautiful area surrounded by mountains and it is one of the most beautiful hill stations of India. Dalip Singh is a Rajput Hindu by religion, contradicting to the popular belief of him being a Sikh.
Dalip Singh is a strong believer in God and loves to take part in Religious Ceremonies, he is also the follower of a Religious Preacher Ashutosh Maharaj and frequently visits him for his blessings. Dalip might look like a Frankenstein-like Monster figure but in reality he is a very soft spoken Gentleman who is generally regarded as very fan-friendly. Whenever he goes out for a walk, people gather to take his autograph, but he never denies anyone and patiently gives them autographs and photographs. Dalip Singh also is a simpleton and never brags about his stature.
Being against Ethnic violence is one of the things Dalip Singh Rana strongly believes in and never ever takes disadvantage of his monstrous figure in real life. Whenever he is in his home town at Jalandhar, he regularly visits various Gyms in the city and motivates the youth there to excel in life.
Dalip Singh is a very kind hearted person, although people stereotype him to be a mean, reckless monster because thats the character he plays in his Wrestling persona, but that is just entertainment like one sees in films! Dalip Singh is a really kind guy in real life. At the Dhirana village in which he lived, he has seen poverty, therefore he regularly visits the village and helps poor people by giving them and their family financial grants, Dalip has also made various Public Places for the people of his village as well as Hospitals and Schools, where all facilities are free. Dalip Singh also loves kids.
Dalip Singh likes to drive cars and wishes he could drive all kinds of them! But unfortunately for him he cannot fit into the Driver's seat of the majority of cars due to his huge structure. He is married to a Punjabi woman Harminder Kaur, the marriage took place with Hindu rituals. Mrs. Khali is not very tall though.
Apart from being a WWE wrestler Dalip Singh is a Hollywood actor as well, details of which can be found in the Showbiz and Khali page. Dalip Singh currently lives in a Bungalow at Jalandhar which is located in the Punjab state of India.
Dalip Singh's knowledge of English has always been thought about people as something non-existant, but this is not true. When Dalip Singh first came to the USA however he didn't knew English, but right now he does speak little English from time to time and can understand it very well. On a show of WWE RAW! as The Great Khali, he was also shown speaking to Jonathan Coachman in English when he said "I want some competition".
As far as his job is concerned, Dalip Singh is currently working for the WWE in USA, but he is not a USA resident, he is the resident of India, and in India he currently has a job as a Sub-Inspector in Punjab Police and is appointed at Jalandhar. He was once sacked from the job accidently but this was reversed in a matter of a few hours.
Dalip Singh has no children but his family nevertheless is very big and they are all proud of Khali. The same way as each and every Indian today is proud of Dalip Singh. He is also the first wrestler from India ever to get into the WWE, before him Tiger Ali Singh also got signed up, but Tiger Ali Singh was a Canadian and not an Indian resident, although he was very patriotic.
Dalip Singh's in-ring name "The Great Khali" is sometimes mistook by people as "The Great Khaali", with Khaali meaning empty, but this is wrong, This name "The Great Khali" was taken from the Indian Goddess of Power, Kaali. Since the Americans cannot pronounce Kaali easily it was changed from Kaali to Khali, still the pronunciation should be "Kh-ali" and not "Khaa-li".
